The town of Amroha is one of the district headquarters of the 72 districts in Uttar Pradesh. Amroha was part of the Sambhal Sarkar during Mughal period, it was a of the territory of Nawab of Awadh for a short while before it became part of the British East India Company in 1801. Amroha was earlier part of Moradabad District but on 24th April 1997 it was made a separate district including Tehsils of Dhanaura, Amroha and Hasanpur. Amroha is a Lok Sabha Constituency and has 5 seats in the UP Assembly.
